Musing About THE Best DIY Project on The Internet, Hands Down

 

 

I love the internet. Yes, it’s a double-edged sword, but the trade-offs are worth it to me, and this is especially true for those of us who are willing to discipline ourselves. Use it for good while dismissing or ignoring the ridiculous. If you ask me, it’s one of the best things about free speech. Case in point: If not for the internet, I wouldn’t be writing this Musing, have a platform, or share with you what I actually want to talk about, here in this Musing: THE Best DIY Project on The Internet, Hands Down.

Allow me to introduce you to Colin Furze. With 13.2 million subscribers, he’s been on YouTube for a long time, creating things many of us only dream of, like a flame-throwing guitar, a bed that ejects you when the alarm goes off, or even Wolverine’s claws. As cool as each of those sounds, even they pale compared to his greatest DIY project: The Secret Underground Tunnel and Secret Garage.

Indeed, the Secret Garage began after the Tunnel was done, and he started a separate YouTube channel to chronicle his step-by-step process. As of this writing, he has over 1.2 million subscribers, and I am beyond impressed – so much so, I decided to mention him via a Musing.

When I think about a project of this size and magnitude, DIY projects are done by those with skill. Before he became a YouTuber, he was a plumber. Where he lacks expertise, he does consult to fill in the gaps, which is precisely what I say those in the trades do in real life, too.

Say what you will, but digging a tunnel from your workshop to your house, and expanding that to a Secret Garage is THE Best DIY Project on The Internet, Hands Down.
